n! biomachines, based in Burlington, is focused on the development and production of bioreactors and advanced machinery for cellular agriculture and precision fermentation. Our integrated Research and Development center within the same facility is an Ontario hub for innovation in bioprocess design and optimization, plant-based engineering, food technology and scaled alternative protein production.

The Procurement Manager is responsible for the tactical procurement of supplies, equipment, and services. The Procurement Manager coordinates efforts with departmental managers to determine and maintain appropriate levels of inventory. This individual has the experience to purchase goods and services that meet quality requirements and specifications at the most favorable price for the company, while simultaneously building and maintaining strategic relationships with key suppliers. 

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the purchasing activities of the organization. 

  • Develop, monitor, enforce, and improve purchasing policies, procedures and KPIs 

  • Manage the purchasing module in ERP, and propose improvements 

  • Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate information time payment to vendors and rapid month end closing 

  • Manage reporting related to purchasing and inventory, including maintaining immaculate Purchase Orders and up-to-date information for Finance 

  • Identify vendors of materials, equipment or supplies and evaluate them against existing or self-developed standards 

  • Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials. 

  • Negotiate, contract & execute agreements to fulfill day-to-day business needs  

  • Establish delivery schedules, monitor progress and contact suppliers to resolve issues. 

  • Arrange outbound logistics, shipping, and customs for finished good shipments, including associated paperwork.  

  • Monitor costs for outbound logistics. 

  • Analyze inventory needs based on sales trends, production targets and inventory levels. 

  • Place purchase orders ensuring flow of inventory that guarantees optimum stock levels and meets turnover goals. 

  • Obtain product, safety and storage information. 

  • Prepare and administer bids, requests for proposal, requests for information, and other vendor documentation. 

  • Manage service level agreements, scope of work, and contract terms with service providers. 

  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization. 

Job requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent with a specialization in Purchasing or Procurement  

  • At least 5 years’ progressive experience in a purchasing role.  Manufacturing experience preferred.   

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central ERP procurement module. 

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Excel  

  • Flexible and with a problem-solving attitude suitable for working in a growing company  

  • Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation or registration in the educational program of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada considered an asset 

  • Experience drafting vendor agreements including the ability to strategically assess and mitigate risk with vendors and suppliers through well-structured agreements. 

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders. 

  • Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to corporate purchasing practices. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of integrated supply chain and logistics concepts and theories. 

  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners. 

  • Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently. 

  • Excellent time and project management skills.
